Ramachandrapura Mutt pontiff Raghaveshwara Bharathi has urged the government to scrap the modern slaughterhouse project in the Harohalli industrial area.

The pontiff told reporters on Saturday that if the government does not scrap the project, a large-scale agitation will be launched. He said that they will not allow any slaughterhouse in the state.

BBMP has proposed to set up a modern slaughterhouse on 36 acres of land. The pontiff said that it was very unfortunate that the government is allowing culling of 400 cows, 4,000 sheep and 100 pigs a day.

The pontiff said that if the government does not withdraw its proposal in a month’s time, then a massive protest by 3,000 seers and pontiffs along with other organisations will be held.

He said in the coming days, lakhs of petitions will be sent to the government for enacting the Anti-Cow Slaughter Bill and for dropping the abattoir at Harohalli.
