Gagan, Kudgi thermal project to get CISF cover

Last Updated 07 March 2017, 20:18 IST

The Gagan facility and Kudgi thermal power project in Karnataka will come under the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover this year. These are among 10 sensitive installations in the country to get CISF cover.

The force will also expand its cover to Reliance Corporate IT Park Pvt Ltd in Navi Mumbai and Victoria Memorial and Indian Museum in Kolkata.

In 2016 and January 2017, CISF had inducted nine units, including one fire wing in public and private institutions.

The GPS-Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (Gagan) system project in Bengaluru is among three installations in the aviation sector which will be taken over by CISF. The two others are airports in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and Jamnagar in Gujarat.

Gagan is India's satellite-based air navigation system, a more efficient system that could reduce airline operation costs. It is designed to provide additional accuracy, availability and integrity necessary to enable users to rely on GPS for all phases of the flight.

The other facility from Karnataka under CISF cover would be Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project.
