Separate toilets for policewomen, at last

Last Updated 15 March 2017, 19:34 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced separate toilet facilities for women police personnel in stations across the state. The state budget has allocated Rs 4,938 crore for the Home department during 2017-18.

The women staff had been complaining about lack of toilet facilities and were forced to use the ones meant for male staff or those in nearby houses. The toilets in the stations were also not maintained well.

Another welcome move is that a police commissionerate will be established in Kalaburagi. D V Guruprasad, retired DGP (Home Guards), who has served as DIG in Kalaburagi, said, “The proposal to set up a commissionerate in Kalaburagi was sent in 1992. The place is prone to crimes as it is well connected by rail and road to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. It is a welcome step as the city has grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years and will help to keep a check on crime, and in maintaining law and order.”
