Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.”

The aforementioned quote by late Gianni Versace, celebrated fashion designer and namesake of the Italian fashion house Versace, certainly manages to capture the essence of new age fashion, which focuses on concepts of individuality and self-expression. Moreover, with women growing stronger and more independent than ever, the sight of a lady wearing her personality on her sleeve and having her confidence reflect in her clothing has become commonplace.

In recent times, many noted female personalities have begun to play a key role in transforming the way people perceive women’s fashion wear globally. Whether it is the classy and conventional look, or the bold and over-the-top look, women these days are not afraid of experimenting with their appearance or changing their style; something that is evident in the way celebrities dress during award shows. This newfound comfort in wearing what one desires, irrespective of societal judgment, is gradually encouraging many women to ditch the norm, and create their own fashion statement.

The 59 th Grammy Awards ceremony held last month proved the aforementioned point. While the men looked dapper as always, the women managed to take dressing up to a whole new level. Be it Lady Gaga’s unconventional and dramatic look, or Chrissy Teigen’s gothic look, the ladies at the Grammy’s certainly showed  that bold is the way to go.

In this article, we explore the best fashion picks and trends from the unique outfits that celebrities wore at the 2017 Grammys.

Shades of emerald
Many female artistes opted for emerald green dresses at the event, including British singer Adele, who won the most awards. The popularity of this shade is in alignment with the colour of the year, viz. greenery, which was announced by the Pantone Colour Institute for 2017.

Furthermore, according to some fashion experts, emerald green is one colour that suits almost all skin tones. Emerald and black is one of the best colour pairings that offers an extremely sophisticated and charming look. One can also pair their emerald attire with gold or platinum jewellery to complete the look. While it is advisable to wear light make-up, one can opt for bold red lipstick to add a dramatic effect to their persona.

Elegant feminine gowns
Jennifer Lopez’s pastel Ralph & Russo gown was one of the best dresses worn at the Grammys this year. The multi-talented celebrity looked stunning in the dress. She paired it with diamond rings by Butani, heels by Christian Louboutin, and a silver clutch.

Feminine gowns are perhaps the most common and classiest dresses in the realm of fashion wear. Such gowns are also preferred by most as they accentuate the figure of the wearer, giving a soft, feminine and graceful look. A timeless style, feminine dresses can certainly upgrade one’s style quotient without even trying.

Flower power
Floral prints ruled the red carpet at the Grammy awards this year. Such ultra-feminine prints tend to give a light and playful, yet elegant look. Women looking to follow this trend can take cues from Malina Moye’s simple black gown with floral patterns, or take inspiration from Kelsey Ballerini’s full-fledged floral gown with a train for a princess look.

While these trends stood out at the recent award ceremony, they are hardly the fashion norm. No matter which style you choose to try out, remember to add a bit of uniqueness to it. Make sure you feel comfortable and like yourself in it. That is what will set you apart from the crowd.
