There’s no doubt that the heat wave is taking a toll on us, both physically and mentally. It’s become extremely important to stay hydrated and stay away from the heat as much as possible.

Summer makes one’s skin sticky and also causes tanning and dry skin. Here are a few things you should keep in mind to maintain and protect your skin this season.
  • Stay hydrated: It’s not necessary that you drink only water. Incorporating fresh juices like orange, watermelon, muskmelon and tender coconut to your drinking habit will help with dry skin. Consuming buttermilk at least twice a day will also help to keep your body cool.
  • Homemade face mask: It’s very easy to whip up face masks made with mint, lemon, sandalwood and even cucumber. Leave this on for about 20 minutes or till it dries. It’ll help exfoliate your skin and open up the pores. Wash it off with cold water and feel refreshed.
  • Take steam: It may seem weird but steam helps your skin breathe and get rid of the tan. You can either use hot water and salt therapy or use a nebuliser for a refreshing steam.
  • Always use moisturiser: It’s important that you apply lotion all over your body after a shower. You can also use rosewater as a moisturiser.
  • Use sunscreen: Each body is different and the consequences of the heat on one’s skin will also vary. So it is important to use sunscreen on your body. It is recommended that you apply sunscreen even when you are not stepping outside your home.
  • Feet care: Just like the rest of your body, your feet will also tan due to the heat. Soak your feet in water with a pinch of salt for about 20 minutes at least once a week. It will help improve your blood circulation. It might be difficult, but try to wear socks or closed footwear to avoid the tan line from sandals.
