Kambala issue will be cleared soon: DVS

Last Updated 10 April 2017, 18:06 IST

Union Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for filing the state's clarification against ban on Kambala.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of Kudla Express here on Sunday, he said after the clearance from Law, Environment and Forest, Kannada and Culture Departments, the file has been moved to the Home Department. But, there is a bottleneck, as it has to be proved that there is no violence in Kambala.

‘No clarity’

The state government has not provided clarity while the Tamil Nadu government had provided clarity on Jallikattu. This step is important as it is a procedural aspect, he noted.

If the file is sent back to the state, the procedure will be postponed by another month. Gowda said that he has spoken to the home minister and the joint secretary of the Home Department. A meeting of the state and Union law secretaries will be held in Delhi to clear the issue, he said. The matter will be followed up within a week and in 10 days, the proposal is expected to go to president, he said.

He and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will speak to the president in this regard, Gowda said.

Appointment of priest

Regarding the controversy over the appointment of new Tantri (priest) at Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple, he said Raveesh Tantri’s political involvement and religious stand should not be linked. He expressed confidence that BJP will win in both Nanjanagud and Gundlupet byelections.
