Rocking down the highway

My perfect weekend
Last Updated 20 April 2017, 18:36 IST

When you’re in the film industry, the concept of weekends don’t exist. Whichever is your day off automatically becomes your weekend. And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way! I get to choose the days and utilise them the way I want to.

I usually get two days a month which I call ‘weekend’. In addition, when an artiste doesn’t have any projects lined up, it becomes a very long weekend too (laughs).

My weekends are not perfect but I do what makes me happy. I love to sleep, watch Netflix, order food and be lazy. If it is a Sunday, I become lazier by not going to the gym either. Whenever time allows, I enjoy going on long drives and extend it to a getaway. I usually choose a beautiful location and take off either  alone or with friends. The evening usually ends with a bonfire. At other times,  I go for a dip in the lake.

I’m not a partying kind of person. I feel like people have too much pressure to party when it is not needed. There are so many better ways to spend your time if you don’t want to. It’s like you spend your weekdays working like crazy and partying is the only way to unwind. Thankfully, I love my profession and the projects I take up. It doesn’t feel like work at all and that’s probably why I don’t need to head  over to a crowded pub. I am also a foodie and so are my friends. We love going for brunches.

I never end my day without a sweet and they are not just chocolates. I need something hardcore like ‘ladoo’ or ‘rasmalai’. I’d like to believe that I am a fairly decent cook but I am never satisfied with my cooking. So I would rather order food or have my domestic help make something for me.

My trainer is tired of my eating habits, I must say! As I am a movie buff, I try to watch at least one film in the theatre every week. I watch anything from animation and action films to even horror! When I’m at home, I love watching sitcoms. Shows like ‘Girls’, ‘Easy’, ‘Big Little Lies’, ‘Narcos’, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘House of Cards’ are my favourites.  There are certain weekends where I like to just chill at home and do absolutely nothing all day. But when my driver comes, I just get out and go for a drive or run some errands.

When time permits, I love visiting my mother who lives in Kolkata. She pampers me with delicious food. I also love visiting my aunt who is a brilliant cook. Yes, food definitely brings me closer to people!

So when I am asked what my perfect weekend would be like, I would like to say — it’ll be those days when I wake up and watch a movie, go for brunch, head to the spa, drive around, take a swim, and when the sun is down and enjoy a beautiful bonfire with music in the background. I guess I am lucky that I get to do this once in a couple of months.”
