The new DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Sulkhan Singh, on Saturday warned cow vigilantes, saying no one would be allowed to break the law in the name of protecting cows.

Speaking to reporters here after taking charge as the director general of police, Singh said harassment of innocent couples by the anti-Romeo squads will also not be tolerated.

“We will not allow ‘goondagardi’ by anyone... it makes no difference if the lawbreakers are from the ruling party or any other outfit,” he remarked.

Singh said he had been instructed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to crackdown on criminal elements and ensure the safety of women.

“No one will be allowed to take the law into his hand in the name of protection of cows... if any one has such information, he should share it with the police,” he added.
