It has been 20 years in the fashion industry for designer Rinku Sobti and nothing is a challenge for her anymore as she seems to have understood the pulse of the fashion industry.

Starting her career with a London based Indian designer, Rinku has climbed the ladder of success and made a mark for herself in a short span of time. She showcased her latest collection, ‘Global Age IKAT’,  at the recent Asian Designer Week 2017 and garnered a lot of appreciation.

In a chat with Surupasree Sarmmah, the designer gets candid about her love for golf, the most stylish actor in the industry, her all-time favourite outfit and more.

Your latest collection looks cool and summer friendly...
My collection is all about ‘Ikat’. For the longest time, people related Ikat with simple kurtas and capes but with this collection, I am trying to break the barrier and come up with contemporary trends like jumpsuits, skirts, jackets and dresses. My idea is to get the attention of the young crowd so they know about such traditional patterns and techniques.

Does your style of work reflect your personal style?
Yes, as a designer it is important to express yourself through your work. For me, comfort and keeping an outfit as natural as possible are the priorities. It is also important that all my outfits should have an edge to them.

Your other interests apart from designing...
I love playing golf. Watching a lot of TV shows is another thing that interests me.

The most stylist actor in Bollywood today...
It has to be Sonam Kapoor. She makes an effort to look good. That apart, she also doesn’t shy away from experimenting with her looks.

What did you think about Priyanka’s recent outfit at Met Gala?
I liked it and the fact that she carried it so confidently added to her aura. She made heads turn and that is important. She could have gone wrong, nevertheless, she was flawless and carried it off perfectly.

Fashion scene of India in three words...
Evolving, inspired by others and premium at this point of time.

An all-time favourite outfit from your wardrobe...
I have a short woven cream coloured kurta with salwar pants and dupatta. Its not very experimental but I feel very comfortable in it.

Three must-haves in your travel bag...
Mobile phone, shades and my appointment diary. I have to have all these whenever I am travelling.
