City-based director sets an example with a simple wedding

While film directors and actors spend lavishly on their special day, a city-based theatre director has set an example by getting married in a simple, low-key ceremony on the premises of Ravindra Kalakshetra on Sunday.

Shivu Honiganahalli, a theatre director, tied the knot with Pooja in the company of his family, friends and relatives in a ceremony that lasted 30 minutes. The marriage was performed according to local rituals by the couple without the participation of a priest. The food consisted of the popular breakfast dish chow-chow bath and tea, a welcome change from the opulent spread that is part of regular weddings.

“I always wanted a simple marriage and what better way than having it on the premises of Ravindra Kalakshetra which is like a temple to me. Through this wedding, I wanted to send a message that the large money spent on weddings can be put to better use by donating for social causes,” said Honiganahalli. He has directed over 19 Kannada dramas like Maha Kavi Bhasa, Doota Ghatotkacha and Karana Bhara.
