Diddalli tribals' woes: Subbaiah warns of 'Bengaluru Chalo'

Last Updated 15 May 2017, 18:30 IST
Former MLC and senior advocate A K Subbaiah has warned of Bengaluru Chalo and a dharna in front of chief minister’s residence, if the district administration fails to provide housing facility to the houseless poor and Diddalli tribals in the district immediately.

In a press meet held here recently, Subbaiah alleged that the Diddalli tribals have been deprived of housing facility due to the delay tactics by the government and foul play by the vested interests, including the land owners. “The Diddalli residents were forced to live in Basavanahalli and Byadagutta by making false assurances that they would be allotted sites. With no proper shelter, the Diddalli residents were left to fend for themselves in harsh weather,” he complained.

The district administration has not yet submitted a report to government on whether the land where the tribals lived, is forest land or revenue land. The district administration’s move of shifting them from Diddalli before the submission of the report is inhumane, Subbaiah said.

He further condemned the act of identifying the sites for siteless in Byadagutta under police supervision. All siteless, including those who have applied under Forest Rights Act, should be provided lands on priority, he sought. Bhoomi mattu Vasati Hakku Vanchitara Horata Samithi district president K Nirvanappa and leader Ameen Mohisin were present.
