From granny's treasure trove

Last Updated 19 May 2017, 18:33 IST

There’s a new kid on the block in Indiranagar. Well, a new kid with a very old heart. Yes, you heard that right. ‘Sly Granny’ is a grandmother’s house that has been revamped for millennials to have a great dining experience. Though the design is modern, the place has a certain old-world charm that makes one smile.

As you walk around the restaurant, you’ll notice the 20th century design influences and collections of eclectic art and artefacts, along with crystal decanters and vivid exotica inspired wallpaper. What makes ‘Sly Granny’ interesting indeed are the two floors of the restaurant.

While the first floor is reminiscent of old English club dining halls, the terrace is like a living room plucked right out of an east village New York rooftop. The menu and the vibe are also different on both the floors. But fret not, they are both equally enjoyable.

The cuisine is a melange of inspirations from across the globe with underlying European influences. The seasonal menus will continuously evolve, so expect an element of surprise each time you visit.

‘Baked brie’, an appetiser which is a dijon mustard rubbed baked brie served with tomato jam, candied walnuts, puff pastry and a herb salad, is perfect to start your meal with. If you enjoy liver, the ‘Live pate’ is recommended; it is served with a duo of tomato ‘chutney’ and melba toast. The ‘Tapas style shrimp’ has a unique flavour that will have you licking the plate clean.

If you want to dig into the main course directly, there are a number of options to choose from. Unlike the regular recipes, the ‘Aglio e olio’ is prepared with housemade Udon noodles, tossed with roasted garlic, parmesan, herbs and extra virgin olive oil. The ‘Massaman curry’, on the other hand, has a taste completely different from that at other restaurants. It’s granny’s interpretation and comes as a rich curry with crispy jackfruit, snow peas and lychee served with a side of Kerala red rice.

For the non-vegetarians, the ‘Biscuits and gravy’ is a fine option as it has buttermilk biscuits and crumbled Italian sausages with a sage and bacon gravy. One of their inhouse specials is ‘Sly 9’, a nine-layered beef burger that is served with truffle and parsley fries.

Complete your meal with the delicious ‘Panna cotta’ which is a caramel custard inspired panna cotta with citrus segments and housemade cashew ‘chikki’, and the ‘Walnut pie’, a handmade pie crust filled with walnuts, chocolate chips and cinnamon.

If you’re willing to wait for 20 minutes, the ‘Pot du cake’ is what you should dig in. The warm chocolate cake with orange creme anglaise is certainly worth the wait. ‘Sly Granny’ is located at 618, 12th Main, HAL 2nd Stage, Indira Nagar. For details, call 48536712.
