Rare breeds of dogs walk the ramp in city

Hundreds of dog-lovers in the city thronged the ‘Dog Show’ organised by Hassan Veterinary College and Kennel Club in the city on Sunday.

Canines belonging to various breeds were on display and also took part in competitions organised under various categories. There was a large crowd comprising both young and old to witness dogs walking the ramp. The dogs on display ranged from puppies to well-bred varieties. Some spectators were seen making enquiries from participants about the breed of dogs and how to take care of them.

The dog-owners were also enthusiastic to showcase the prowess of their pets. Canines of various sizes were combed and pampered to participate in the contest.

Cocker Spaniel, Pug, German Shepherd, Doberman, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Boxer, Great Dane, Mudhol and others attracted onlookers who thronged the show as it was a Sunday.


In all, 115 dogs comprising 20 breeds, from Hassan, Belur, Sakleshpur, Arkalgud and Mysuru participated in the event. The canines were seen obeying their masters during the competition.

The owners of the winning dogs were presented with a trophy and a certificate. Dr Nagendra of Bengaluru was the judge for the show.

Hassan Veterinary college Dean Vasanth said the show was organised to provide details on rearing rare breed of dogs which had been brought from foreign countries.

Last year 120 dogs had participated and this year 115 dogs have taken part. The winners were selected based on their temperament, healthy body, friendliness with the owner and other aspects, said Kennel Club Secretary H M Raghavendra.
