Congress leader and AICC General Secretary CP Joshi won the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections on Friday by defeating former IPL chairman Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir Modi.

Both Joshi and Modi were front runners for the post and the former defeated the latter by a margin of 5 votes. Out of 33 votes, Joshi got 19 votes while Ruchir managed to get 14 votes. Interestingly, the posts of Secretary and Treasurer have gone to Modi camp's Rajendra Nandu and Pinkesh Jain respectively.

Soon after winning, Joshi, the former Road Transport and Highways and Railway in the Manmohan Singh cabinet thanked all his supporters for the win. He tweeted,"I thank all the RCA members for their support. We will collectively work to bring glory back to cricket in Rajasthan."

While speaking to the media, he sounded hopeful and willing to try his best to lift the ban on RCA. "We will try our best that BCCI lifts the ban on Rajasthan Cricket Association and players from the state will get the chance to play at the international and national level. We hope that IPL matches will also be organised in Rajasthan once the ban on RCA is lifted,” he told reporters.

On the other hand former RCA Deputy President and Lalit Modi's lawyer, Mehmood Abdi called the results a huge setback for the Modi camp. He told media, "Losing president's seat is a huge setback for us."However without naming Joshi, while questioning the competence of Joshi's faction, Abdi said,
"Winning an election and managing cricket are two different things."

Voting for the Rajasthan Cricket Association Elections 2017 was held on May 29. The High Court had on Tuesday granted permission for counting of votes on June 2. The 2017 election was a straight fight between RCA president Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir Modi and senior Congress leader CP Joshi, who has also been a former RCA president.
