They had approached the police for lodging a complaint of molestation knowing little that they would face the same humiliation at the police station.

In a shocking incident, a police constable allegedly molested a girl inside Karhal Gate police outpost in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district, about 300 kilometres from here.

The girls, who were sisters, had gone to the police station a few days back to lodge a report against a person, who had allegedly tried to harass them, sources said.

The cop, identified as Ishwari Prasad, who was said to be in an inebriated state, allegedly touched one of the victims inappropriately.

The matter came to light on Saturday, when a video purportedly showing the cop touching one of the girls inappropriately went viral on social networking sites.

The video shows the cop lying on a cot and one of the girls standing near him. The other girl is seen sitting a few meters away.

The cop is seen indulging in indecent acts several times. The victim is seen leaving the place in a huff.

Prasad, however, denied having touched the girl inappropriately though he admitted that he had touched her hand, sources said.

Sources said that the sisters complained about their alleged harassment to the senior officials after which Prasad was suspended and a probe was ordered. ''Further action will be taken against the cop after the probe,'' said a senior police official in the district.

Barely a few days back a SHO of Kisni police station in the district had been suspended after he was accused of sending obscene text messages to a woman.

Uttar Pradesh government had a couple of days back taken action against around half a dozen police personnel on charges of laxity and connivance with criminals. Two police personnel had recently been felicitated in Mathura district by a history sheeter.
