The pre-monsoon rain that lashed the city last week has left roads dotted with potholes, exposing the poor quality of works and maintenance by the local body,Potholes have emerged on Kasturba Road, Shanthinagar Road, Kanakapura Road, Hosur Road, OM Road, KR Road, ORR, Mysuru Road, Tumakuru Road, Bannerghatta Road among others.

Bharathinagar Residents’ Welfare Association president N S Ravi said, “The road in the area was already bad. Rain has damaged it further. We are worried how the road will be once the monsoon arrives. We complained to the authorities but to no avail.”

Vehicle  users, especially motorcyclists, are having a tough time in negotiating pothole-ridden roads. Manohar H N, a resident of HMT Layout, said  he had developed severe backache because of riding on pothole-filled roads.
Opposition BJP leader in the BBMP Council Padmanabha Reddy blamed the BBMP for the bad roads. “No development work is taking place in the city. The administration is draining public money on publicity blitzkrieg,” he said.

BBMP Commissioner
N Manjunath Prasad said he had ordered the joint commissioners, chief engineers and ward-level engineers to repair the roads at the earliest. “Starting next week, the road repair work will be in full-swing. I have warned of suspending the engineers if fail in their duty,” he said and added that there was no dearth of fund for improving the roads.
