Panel to pay ex gratia to 5-yr-old rape victim

The Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has decided to enrol the two brothers of the five-year-old girl, who was recently assaulted sexually, in a school.

The commission is also considering extending financial aid to the victim’s family. “As of now, we have decided to give Rs 10,000,” commission chairperson Kripa Alva told reporters on Monday.

Alva visited the girl who is undergoing treatment at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital. She said the commission will enrol the two brothers, aged seven and nine years, in a school.

“I was heartbroken to know that these children have not stepped into a school. I have asked my staff to speak to the Education department to make arrangements for their education as soon as possible,” said Alva.

The girl is in acute pain. Doctors attending on her said the girl cries whenever she wakes up from sleep, Alva said.
She said they were waiting for the results of her forensic examination and scanning reports.

The girl was abducted and raped by a ragpicker near her makeshift shed in KG Halli on June 3.
