The staff of Securitrans India Pvt Ltd, a company engaged in the business of transporting cash, says the firm has sacked around 100 workers, including managers, on Saturday. They say the company has replaced them with a new team brought from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir and Delhi who were taken for work under police protection.

Over 85 employees, most of them gunmen, who have retired from the army and the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), were shocked to see a notice board outside the company, along with their names, saying they have been laid off.

The employees gathered in front of the company near Adarsha Theatre in Halasuru and protested demanding that the company take them back. “They have laid off these employees without any valid reasons. We will stage an overnight protest till our demands are met,” said P P Appanna, state secretary, All India Central Council of Trade Unions. Attempts to get a reaction from the company management proved futile.
