Russian President Vladimir Putin took up with Chinese President Xi Jinping the issue of India’s admission into the Nuclear Suppliers Group when the two leaders met in Astana on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's summit last week. He argued that China should reconsider its position and support India's immediate entry, sources told DH. The renewed attempt by Modi and Putin to nudge Xi came just ahead of the NSG’s annual plenary, which would take place at Berne in Switzerland next week.
