Rival RR Nagar corporators hurl charges at each other

On Monday, corporators supporting Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA Munirathna termed charges against their leader baseless and lashed out at three women corporators and their husbands.

Addressing a press conference, corporators Velu Nayak, G Mohan Kumar and three others from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency said corporators Asha Suresh (Congress), Mamatha Vasudev (BJP) and Manjula Narayanaswamy (JD-S) were involved in a Rs 100-crore scam.

Corporator G K Venkatesh said: “JP Park corporator Mamatha Vasudev’s husband has encroached on the lake near JP Park. The lake, which was 103 acres, has shrunk to 84 acres. We are fighting against this because we want to save the lake.’’

The women corporators and the BJP leaders filed a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala earlier this month urging him to direct the government to initiate action against Munirathna, accusing him of a role in the attack on women corporators at a BBMP programme attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Laggere in May.

Asha asked the rival group corporators to show evidence of her involvement in corruption. “I am not involved in the Rs 100-crore scam. If that was the case, I would also have become an MLA by now.

Munirathna has even kept the police under his wings and that is the reason why officers do not follow my orders,’’ added Asha.

Mamatha too denied the charges and said the MLA and his followers were involved in rampant corruption. These women corporators have called for a protest against the MLA and his supporters on Tuesday. Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy will lead the protest, they said.
