<p> Two principals of government first grade colleges who applied for transfer were spoilt for choice as they had 385 colleges to choose from. <br /><br />This is because of the large number of vacant principals’ posts in the state’s government degree colleges. <br /><br />When the Department of Collegiate Education invited applications for the ongoing transfer process, only K Prasad, principal of Government First Grade College, Molkalmur, Chitradurga, and S Malleshappa, principal of Government First Grade College, Sira, Tumakuru applied.<br /><br />Malleshappa had sought transfer to Tumakuru in the counselling process which began on June 24 and Prasad decided, at the last moment, to continue at the Molkalmur college. <br /><br />Usually, the number of vacancies available for principals are few and the number of transfer applications are many. <br /><br />Of the 412 first grade degree colleges in the state, 385 do not have permanent principals. In the remaining 27, temporary principals have been appointed. <br /><br />No promotion<br /><br />President of the government first degree college lecturers association, Dr H Prakash, said, “The colleges are struggling without permanent principals but the government is not paying any heed to this problem. There have been no promotions in the past five years.”<br /><br />Of the temporarily appointed principals, three retired in May, three complete their tenure this month and in July, four will retire, he said.<br /><br /></p>
