<p>Union Minister of State for Drinking Water & Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi on Thursday questioned why the Congress did not bother to make B R Ambedkar President of India when it had an opportunity.<br /><br />Criticising the Congress for fielding former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar against NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, the minister said the Congress should have extended its support to Kovind.<br /><br />Congress governments did not bother to confer Bharat Ratna on Ambedkar. The party also did not display a portrait of Ambedkar in the Central Hall of Parliament.<br /><br />Instead of showing its affection towards SCs now by fielding Meira, the Congress should have given its due respect to Ambedkar earlier, he said.</p>
