NGT to hear Bellandur lake case on Aug 9

Last Updated 13 July 2017, 20:55 IST

The National Green Tribunal on Thursday deferred the hearing of incidents of fire in Bellandur lake to August 9.

When the tribunal, headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar was about to take up the petition for hearing on Thursday, an advocate representing petitioner and Rajya Sabha member Kupendra Reddy said the Karnataka High Court had stayed the proceedings on Bellandur lake in the Principal Bench of the NGT. The advocate also said the appeal has been made to the Supreme Court against the High Court order.

Earlier, Shashi Distilleries Pvt Ltd near Hulimavu, which also received closure notice from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, approached the Karnataka High Court saying that the Bellandur lake issue should be heard by NGT Southern Bench at Chennai and not by its Principal Bench in Delhi. Hearing the petition, a division bench of Karnataka High Court headed by Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee stayed the NGT's principal proceedings.
