<p>The staff of the central prison at Hindalga in Belagavi staged a sit-in protest outside the prison premises on Thursday, against the report by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) D Roopa that illegal activities were going on at Bengaluru Central Prisons at Parapanna Agrahara in Bengaluru.<br /><br />Officials and staff, wearing black armbands, staged the protest, while inmates held a symbolic protest inside, in support of Director General of Police (Prisons) H N Sathyanarayana Rao. <br /><br />Prison Superintendent T P Shesh said Sathyanarayana Rao had been discharging his duties satisfactorily and had not accepted bribe from anyone. The charges made against him were aimed at character assassination, Shesh said.<br /><br />Roopa has been responsible for the report appearing in the media, which has affected the credibility of the department, he said. <br /><br />Staff of the central jail in Kalaburagi also staged a protest in support of Sathyanarayana Rao.<br /></p>
