The four-member band ‘Retrospekt’ is merely a year old but that has not stopped them from garnering the attention of music lovers in the city. This rock and roll band does covers of popular tracks by artistes like Elvis Presley, ‘The Beatles’, ‘Queen’, ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’, ‘Guns & Roses’, ‘Deep Purple’ and ‘Pink Floyd’.

The current line up of the band is Aditya Kumar on vocals, Robin Gupta on bass, Winston Joel as lead guitarist and Sagar Selvaraj on drums.

The band has put up successful gigs at ‘The Big Pitcher’ and ‘Sanchos’, UB City.

In a conversation with Surupasree Sarmmah, the members talk about their musical interests.

Why the name ‘Retrospekt’?
Aditya: A lot of the music that we play comes under the retro genre and that’s how we came up with the name.

So, you guys knew each other?
Aditya: No, we actually met through a common interest group on Facebook. I reached out to Robin who had played before with Sagar for another band and that’s how we came together.

One of your most memorable gigs...
Winston: It was at ‘Sancho’s’. The kind of crowd we saw there was great.

Which part of the house do you get most of your ideas in?
Winston: The balcony
Robin: For me, it’s the bathroom

The song you are thinking right now...
Windson: Carnival of lust
Robin: Joker and the thief

The music scene in the city...
Aditya: I think it’s great. There are a lot of great bands out there and the audience too is extremely knowledgeable about the kind of music they want to listen to.

Do you face any challenges considering you are a new band?
Aditya: Not at all. We play at gigs as a recreational activity during the weekends since three of us have regular day jobs.

Your biggest challenge as a band...
Aditya: Consistency and regularity. Making sure that we get together and perform is the biggest challenge.
