Speeding truck runs over toddler on city's outskirts

A one-and-a-half-year-old girl was run over by a truck in Madanayakanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Sunday evening.

The victim Mouna was playing with her brother Nagarjuna and friends near Muneshwaraswamy temple in Ganapathy Layout when the accident occurred, the police said.

According to the police, the accident happened around 5.15 pm on a mud road that goes from Madanayakanahalli toward Lakshmipura in Dombarahalli.

When the children were playing, a speeding Canter truck driven in a rash and negligent manner knocked down Mouna and, the rear wheel ran over the toddler’s head, killing her on the spot, said the police.

As the locals started gathering at the spot, the driver sensed danger. He abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. The police rushed to the spot and shifted Mouna’s body for postmortem.
The truck was seized and the police are on the lookout for the driver. Mouna was daughter of Ravikumar, a painter, and Amudhavathi, a garment factory worker and a tailor. The couple were residents of Ganapathy Layout. The Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case.
