Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education Anil D Sahasrabudhe called upon students to look beyond what is taught in colleges and become more relevant in the industry.

Participating in the freshers’ day celebrations of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering here on Tuesday, he said that students should become creative and not restrict themselves to scoring marks in exams and bagging a job after completing the course.

“Only 25% of students get an opportunity to pursue higher studies. So, the students who pursue higher education should offer their services for the welfare of the society. Even teachers should be learners to help students acquire knowledge. Teachers should attend faculty development programmes and workshops meant for them and provide exposure to their students about the goings-on in the international level,” he said.

“If students wish to remain relevant and want to compete in the global technology arena, they cannot complain that some necessary skill or technology has not been taught in the college. They should regularly update themselves. Instead of wasting their holidays, they should take up internships in companies of their interest. They can also take up online jobs to gain experience. There is no limit for learning and it can be fun,” he said.

Director of National Institute of Science, Education and Research, Jatni, Odisha, T K Chandrasekhar was also present.
