Forty five-year-old Motilal Pal, a constable with the Uttar Pradesh Police, wanted his only son to study Mathematics so that it could help him become an engineer.

The son, Raja Pal alias Prince, however, detested the subject.

Motilal would scold and sometimes even beat him for faring poorly in the subject.

The father, however, might have never imagined that Prince could kill him for his insistence.

The 16-year-old on Saturday night shot his father dead while the latter was asleep at their residence at Dhoomanganj locality in Allahabad town, about 200 km from here.

The minor, according to the family members, also held his mother and sister hostages at gun point for over 30 hours.

The incident came to light on Sunday night, when a relative of the victim visited the family, reports said.
The culprit has been arrested, police said.

Police sources said Motilal, who was posted at Bhadohi district, had come home on Saturday. He scolded and beat Prince on learning that his son had fared poor in Maths in the school examination.
