Students and teachers at this government primary school in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district, about 300 kilometres from here, were shocked to find empty bottles of liquor littered on the floor of their class rooms, when they reached the school after it opened the day after 'Raksha Bandhan' festival.

It later turned out that the premises of the school had been turned into a dance bar on the night of the festival on Monday.

The matter came to light on Wednesday, when a video showing footage of dance by the bar girls, went viral on the social networking sites.

According to the reports, the dance program had been organised by the panchayat chief of Tetaraiya village under Jamalpur block in the district.

Reports said that the 'pradhan' had taken the keys of the primary school from the headmaster after it was closed on Saturday. The 'pradhan', had told the headmaster that the premises was needed to organise a cultural program on the occasion of 'Raksha Bandhan' festival.

Liquor was also served at the program, according to the reports. The video footage also purportedly showed liquor flowing freely during the dance.

The headmaster found empty liquor bottles littered on the floor of the class rooms, when he opened the school on Tuesday, the reports said.

Reports said that he reported the matter to the district basic education officer. District education officials said that the matter would be thoroughly inquired into and action would be taken against those responsible. The officials also said that they were trying to verify the authenticity of the video.

Earlier also there have been instances of schools and even police stations in different parts of the state turning into dance bars on many occasions.
