First phase of census to begin from April 15

Addressing the officers, he said that census in India started wayback in 1872. He requested the citizens to know the importance of census and co-operate with the corporation officials in conducting survey. The district administration has created one block with 150 to 200 houses with a population of 650 to 700. One person will be supervising six such blocks. The deputed officials have been given training. Tahsildars and Muncipal Chief Officers have been given four days training. Chief trainer will provide training to the enumerators between April 9 and 13.

For citizen’s grievances, service centres and grievance centres will be opened at DC’s Office, and Corporation office, he said. Citizens can give any suggestions, complaints and grievances by calling 1077, which is a toll free number.
To include working and labour class in the census, 5 NGO’s have been included in the lists of enumerators.

Udupi
The Union Government and the Directorate of Census, Karnataka, will be taking up the 2011 census work in two phases in Udupi district. In a press release issued here, District Census Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner T M Prabhakar said that the first phase of the census would be held from April 15 to 30.
Census officials will prepare a list of houses to be covered in this phase. Census of both individuals and houses will be taken up from May 1 to 31 in the second phase.
Authorities have urged the people to co-operate with the officials when they visit the houses by providing proper information. Census numbers will be marked on the houses visited by the officials. People should ensure that these numbers do not get erased, the release said.
