Last Updated 26 August 2017, 18:16 IST

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader said that action will be taken against fair price shops, under the Public Distribution System (PDS), which have failed to install Point of Sales (PoS) machines.

A team, comprising deputy commissioner and Food and Civil Supplies Department joint director, will inspect the shops that are facing problem in networks and submit a report. He was speaking at a meeting in DC’s office on Saturday.

To cut pilferage in the public distribution system (PDS), the government has decided to set up PoS machines in all fair price  shops.

“The fair price shop owners should have service motive. A total of 12,000 PoS machines have been installed and have helped to cut the pilferage by 90%. This has also brought in transparency in the distribution system. With the installation of PoS machines, even the shop owners find it easy to maintain the accounts,” he noted.

“A few shop owners are backtracking from installing PoS, by citing fake reasons. It is unbelievable that there is network problem in Mangaluru city. The problem may exist in interiors of Sullia and Belthangady taluks. Based on the report from the DC and Food and Civil Supplies Department JD, permission will be granted to supply food grains without PoS, in those areas where there is problem in network. GPS facility will be installed in all food grain transporting lorries under PDS,” he explained.

The MLAs, local elected representatives and MP should join hands with the system in the effective distribution of ration, he noted.

The minister also set a deadline of September 10 to distribute title deeds for those who have built houses on government land, under 94 CC of Karnataka Land Revenue
Act.

He said that action should be initiated against those village accountants who delay the process of distribution of title deeds. The title deeds cannot be given for those who are residing on private land, deemed forest and on the periphery of the road. Those who have been residing on the government land prior to 1991 will be given the title deeds, he
said.

Those who have constructed houses within 40 metre of National and State Highways will not get the title deeds. In case of the house is constructed on CRZ II prior to 1991, then the title deeds can be issued if the TMC and revenue officials give approval. However, those who have constructed house on CRZ III, after 1991, will not be given title deeds, he said.
