Denotification case against BSY adjourned

Last Updated 28 August 2017, 19:45 IST

The High Court of Karnataka on Monday extended the interim order not to arrest BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had given an undertaking that it would not arrest Yeddyurappa till the next date of hearing. Following this, the ACB withdrew summons to Yeddyurappa to appear before it.

During the hearing, senior counsel and former advocate general Ravivarma Kumar said that one Asha Paradeshi had written an undated letter to then chief minister Yeddyurappa seeking to denotify land that was acquired. There are at least 20 such letters addressed to the then chief minister, he said.

Yeddyurappa forwarded these letters to the Urban Development Department for denotification, the counsel said. He also pointed out that letters were addressed directly to the chief minister which is not the procedure when there is a board and a committee formed to address these issues.

Kumar also referred to former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda announcing on the floor of the Assembly that he would hand over the denotification case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Senior counsel C V Nagesh, appearing for Yeddyurappa, said the complaint was registered with the ACB on June 6, 2017 and FIR was registered on August 10, 2017.

Yeddyurappa moved the court seeking quashing of two FIRs filed by ACB and the proceedings against him in the Shivaram Karanth Layout denotification case. Hearing the petition, Justice Aravind Kumar adjourned the next hearing to August 30.
