32 more die in Bihar; Assam breathes easy

Floods in Bihar claimed 32 more lives while two persons were killed in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The situation improved in the eastern states of Assam and West Bengal.

In Odisha, heavy rain triggered by a low pressure disrupted normal life in many parts, causing a flood-like situation in three districts.

Several rivers were in spate in Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts, while incessant rain inundated over six villages and snapped road links. Two fresh deaths were reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, taking the toll to 102. The toll in Bihar reached 514 after 32 more deaths were reported on Monday even as authorities said that the flood situation marginally improved in the state.

Mumbai situation

Heavy rain pounded the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on Monday, causing traffic snarls at several places in the commercial capital. The Met Department predicted further downpour on Tuesday.

The weathermen asked fishermen not to venture into the sea, and issued a port warning. hile the Western Railway services functioned normally, there were delays on the Central Railway. Traffic jams were also reported from several road intersections.

Reservoirs supplying drinking water to the MMR are filled up to 95% of their capacity.
