Lorthanath alias Sabasin (39), a resident of Medarahalli in K R Puram, was arrested on Friday for masquerading as a police inspector and relieving people of their possessions.
Lorthanath, an MSc post-graduate, painted a stolen motorcycle like a police bike and rode it around the town posing as an inspector. Police said he had been pulling off this drill for over 10 years collecting bribes from hawkers and shopkeepers.
Lorthanath would also accost gullible persons, bully them and confiscate their phones and other valuables. The police have recovered 25 mobile phones and other valuables. A case has been registered.
