Maastigudi crew seek quashing of case

Last Updated 29 August 2017, 19:51 IST

Film unit members of Kannada movie Maastigudi moved the High Court of Karnataka seeking quashing of lower court proceedings against them for the death of two actors during the shooting of the film.

Actors Anil and Uday drowned in the Tippagondanahalli reservoir during the shooting of the movie in November 2016. Producer Sundar P Gowda, director R Nagashekhar, assistant director Maradappa, stunt director K Ravikumar and assistant director S Bharath Rao moved the court seeking directions to quash the chargesheet and the lower court proceedings against them. The petitioners contended that though precautionary measures were taken, the actors, after having jumped from the helicopter, drowned in the lake due to high amount of accumulated silt in the lake.

The police have charged the unit members of intentional killing. The prosecutors said that though the actors had confessed before the media that they did not know to how swim, they performed the stunt and the film unit had failed to take any protective measures. Justice Aravind Kumar, refusing to stay the proceedings, issued notice to D Anasuya, in-charge superintendent, Tippagondanahalli dam, Tavarekere police and V Anil Kumar, investigating officer in the case and adjourned the hearing to September 11.
