Last Updated 11 April 2010, 18:37 IST

Beeraiah sustained injuries and was rushed to KC General Hospital. In a statement, Beeraiah told police that ASI Chowdaiah and Inspector Abdul Khadar thrashed him with a cane as he refused to follow their instructions. However, the inspector said Beeraiah was not beaten up, but admitted that he exchanged heated words with him regarding allotment of duty.

Chowdaiah marked Beeraiah for night duty in the police station. Beeraiah objected and demanded that he be given a night beat patrolling outside. Chowdaiah refused to accede to Beeraiah’s demand. An irked Beeraiah snatched the diary register and tried to tear it up. He shouted at Chowdaiah and left the station, added the sources.

Beeraiah returned after a few minutes and met the inspector. He requested the inspector to allot him duty outside. The inspector directed him to follow the ASI’s instruction and work inside the station. Beeraiah allegedly used certain objectionable words and misbehaved with the inspector. When he tried to argue with the ASI, the inspector intervened and controlled the situation. Beeraiah immediately rushed and got admitted to the hospital, added the sources.

The Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) M R Pujar, referring to departmental inquiry, said it would take a couple of days to know what exactly had happened.
