Chatbots are slowly gaining significance in banks and other financial institutions. With growing number of FinTech companies, banks are also exploring various technologies for smooth customer transactions.

On Tuesday, HDFC Bank announced that its OnChat, the Facebook Messenger chatbot created in partnership with Niki.ai, has observed 160% month-on-month growth in transactions since its launch in December 2016.

Infosys Finacle, part of EdgeVerve Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Infosys, too announced its partnership with the FinTech startup that offers chat based commerce solutions. With this partnership, Finacle solution suite will be available with Niki.ai’s chat-based virtual assistant – Niki, the company release said.

The offering will enable banks to give their customers a virtual banking assistant for shopping.

Sachin Jaiswal, CEO, Niki.ai said, “What we are offering is not just a bot, it’s a one platform for all transactions. OnChat is now used by HDFC customers to transact and use services like bill payments, mobile charges, travel services, and entertainment services. Going forward, we are planning to offer stock broking and insurance also. All a customer needs to do is ask the bot.”

“The idea behind OnChat is to allow customers to conduct transactions while they chat with friends on Messenger, thereby taking the user experience in the conversational banking space to the next level,” said Nitin Chugh, Country Head – Digital Banking, HDFC Bank.
