<div align="justify">The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday sought reports from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh governments following allegations of police atrocity against farmers and a “fake” encounter respectively.<br /><br />In its notice to the Madhya Pradesh government, the NHRC has asked the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to submit a report within four weeks on allegations of atrocity against a group of farmers returning after a protest in Tikamgarh.<br /><br />The media had reported about police assaulting farmers after stripping them down to their underwear, at the Tikamgarh rural police station on October 3. The farmers were returning after a protest against the anti-farmer policies of the government.<br /><br />“The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, are indicative of violation of human rights of the farmers,” the NHRC said.</div>
