The Karnataka High Court on Monday began the hearing in another case filed against ‘Cyanide’ Mohan on Monday.

On October 12, Mohan was convicted and awarded life imprisonment by the high court in the rape and murder case of Anita of Kolimane in Bantwal taluk.

A divisional bench of Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice John Michael Cunha was hearing a criminal appeal filed by Mohan in the murder case of Leela from Vamadapadav, Mangaluru. Leela had gone missing from Vamadapadav on September 9, 2005.

Leela was taken to Mysuru on the pretext of an interview and raped in a lodge there and killed after being administered a cyanide pill in the Mysuru KSRTC bus stand.

Mohan was convicted and awarded the death sentence in the case by a sessions court in Mangaluru in December 2013. While arguing his case in the court, Mohan said that the jewellery produced by the police belonged to his wife and not the victim. When the judge asked Mohan why his wife had not come to claim the jewellery, Mohan replied that his wife was afraid of the police. To this, Justice Ravi Malimath said on a lighter note that the wife can never be afraid.
