Pune, PTI: A 10-year-old boy was beaten up by his teacher after he failed to bring his Aadhaar card.

The incident occurred at Morya Shikshan Sanstha High School in Chinchwad area a few weeks ago.

Police registered the case on Monday, weeks after the boy was hit on the back of his knees by his teacher.

The boy had to undergo surgery and is recuperating in the hospital, a police official said.

Police have booked the teacher, Kharat, under relevant sections of the IPC and the Juvenile Justice Act.

"The boy was beaten up by Kharat in September after he failed to bring Aadhaar Card," the police said.

The boy suffered an infection due to an internal injury on the back of his knee and later underwent a surgery.

"His parents then approached the police station and lodged a complaint. Since school is closed, we are investigating for what reason the pupil was asked to furnish the Adhaar number," he said.
