Speed of 700 trains to be increased from today
The Indian Railways has announced a new timetable for 700 long-distance trains and a few local trains in all of its zones with effect from November 1.

As per the new timetable, several trains’ arrival and departure schedule and train numbers have been changed.

Sixty-five express/mail trains have been upgraded to superfast trains.

Besides, time of halts of several trains at railway stations will be reduced depending on the passenger footfall.

The travel time for a number of trains have been cut down between 19 minutes and three hours by reducing the halt time or engine changing time, said an official of the railway ministry.

Fifty-one express and 36 passenger trains running under the Southern Railway will be speeded up.

However, the Election Commission has barred the Railways from giving publicity to the new timetables due to the code of conduct in force for the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh
Assembly elections.
