2 contenders skip DGP takeover ceremony

Last Updated 31 October 2017, 20:05 IST

DGPs H C Kishore Chandra and M N Reddi, two other contenders for the post, did not turn up for the charge handing-over ceremony.

For the last one month, the two officers made all-out efforts to succeed Dutta. Two influential ministers from Bengaluru backed Reddi while Vokkaliga ministers stood by Kishore Chandra. They apparently felt let down after Neelmani was chosen.

Sources also said soon after R K Dutta was appointed the DG&IGP nine months ago, Neelmani had submitted a representation to the government that she was interested in a Central deputation. The state conveyed her interest to the Centre and apparently a sub-committee from the Centre had also chosen her for the post of DG-NHRC. Around 10 days ago, Neelmani submitted another representation withdrawing her earlier representation expressing her interest to serve in the state.
