Manipal varsity VC stresses on conducting faculty development programmes

The two-day national conference on educational approaches in microbiology and biology education organised by the Department of Microbiology, Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC), Manipal University, in association with the Medical Education Unit of MMMC, concluded here on Saturday.

The conference titled, "Frontiers in Microbiology and Biology Education" (FIMBE 2017) was conducted to commemorate the 20 years of MMMC and was inaugurated by Dr H Vinod Bhat, vice-chancellor of Manipal University. In his inaugural address, he emphasised the importance of faculty development programmes which aim to bring together educators and researchers on a common platform so as to collaborate, share and evolve ways to work together to promote student learning.

Four pre-conference workshops were organised on themes of learning through inquiry based education, integrating educational technology, competency based curricula and fostering educational research. The sessions were facilitated by national and international experts.A panel discussion on microbiology and biology education involving national and international faculty was also conducted. The valedictory function was inaugurated by Dr Poornima Baliga, pro vice-chancellor, Manipal University.
