Male nurse gets 25 years in jail for sexually abusing foreigner patient

The seventh additional sessions court on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a 26-year-old male nurse to 25-year imprisonment for sexually abusing a foreign patient in a hospital, in November 2015.

Sumith, a native of Malavalli in Mandya district, is the convict. He had sexually abused a foreign woman when she was undergoing treatment at Columbia Asia Hospital. The woman, also a researcher, who visited Biligiriranga (BR) Hill on a research work, developed health complications and was admitted to the hospital.

Sumith had sexually abused the woman when she was asleep. He had also repeatedly tried to contact her on the social media. Due to harassment, the woman had lodged a complaint, before returning to her country.

The court, which considered the issue seriously, conducted the proceedings through Skype, a telecommunications application. Public Prosecutor Mahantappa argued the case for the woman.
