Even after 10 months, the state government is yet to constitute a search committee to appoint Vice Chancellor to the University of Mysore (UoM). Though Governor Vajubhai Vala has directed the government to constitute a new committee, it is yet be done.

The government had formed a search committee to suggest eligible candidates for the VC's post and had submitted a list of
candidates twice. But the Governor rejected the names and directed the government to constitute a new committee.

The VC's post is lying vacant after the tenure of K S Rangappa ended on January 10. The government had formed a committee headed by former VC of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) H P Kincha, Central University (Kalaburagi) H M Maheshwaraiah, UGC member V S Chauhan and former chief of UGC, also, UoM Syndicate member, Hari Gautham. As Hari Gautham was suffering from health issues, he was not attending the meeting and he was replaced by former VC of Gulbarga University V B Coutinho.

Since the post is lying vacant, the acting VCs are heading the varsity. While professor Yashwanth Dongre was nominated as acting VC initially, now Dayananda Mane is serving as the VC. But Mane's tenure as dean will complete on November 22 and thus, the government has to nominate a new acting VC.
