Sammelana sub-committees submit proposal seeking funds

The sub-committees constituted for the conduct of the 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, on Thursday, submitted a proposal for necessary funds, before the executive committee of the sammelana.

The state government has agreed to provide Rs 8 crore for the event. While the procession sub-committee has proposed for Rs 40 lakh, stage preparation sub-committee has asked for Rs 15 lakh. The cultural sub-committee has asked for Rs 40 lakh, decoration sub-committee and cleanliness sub-committee have submitted a proposal for Rs 14 lakh and Rs 25 lakh respectively. Similarly, the health committee, volunteers sub-committee have been asking for Rs 3 lakh and Rs 8 lakh respectively. Women sub-committee has sought Rs 3 lakh, souvenir sub-committee has asked for Rs 6 lakh. Publicity sub-committee has asked for Rs 50 lakh and an additional Rs 40 lakh for publicity purpose.

Rope-in local artistes

As renowned artistes are demanding higher honorarium to perform during the literary festival, cultural sub-committee chairman, also MLA G T Devegowda, has asked the officials to rope-in local artistes and the best performers during the Dasara cultural events to perform in the literary festival to cut the expenses.

MLA Vasu said, a few well-known artistes such as singer Raghu Dixit, and Vasundhara Doraswamy, who are from Mysuru, would be convinced to perform in the event.

The events of the literary fest will be held at different venues such as Maharaja's College Grounds, Maharaja's College Centenary Hall, Kalamandira, Dufferin Clock Tower (Chikkagadiyara) Circle, Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple premises, Town Hall, and mini theatre in Kalamandira. The cultural events will be held between 6 pm and 10 pm, on all three days.

The authorities have also decided to bring sammelana president Chandrashekara Patil to the venue in a decorated chariot (sarot) and the portrait of Bhuvaneshwari Devi will be taken out on an elephant.

Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sultana, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman D Dhruvakumar, Mysuru Assistant Commissioner Shivegowda, MUDA Commissioner Kantaraju, and District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Dr Y D Rajanna were present.
