Elaborate security for Datta Jayanthi, Eid Milad

The police have heightened security ahead of Datta Jayanthi and Eid Milad in Chikkamagaluru district. The district administration has initiated all precautionary measures to maintain peace, said SP K Annamalai.

Briefing reporters on Tuesday, he said that Anasooya Jayanthi will be held on December 1 and women will take out Sankeerthana Yathre on December 2. Muslims have been given permission to take out Eid procession from 8 am to 12.30 pm.

He said that Anjuman Islamiya group will carry out a procession on M G Road, Market road and Hanumanthappa Circle. Shia Muslims will take out a separate procession at Uppalli. No stage programmes will be held as part of Eid Milad. Eid Milad procession in Mudigere, Sringeri and Koppa will be held on December 1.

The procession in Adloor, Tarikere and Birur will be held on December 2 while it will be held at Kadur on December 8.

Members of Hindu organisations will take out Shobhayathre on account of Datta Jayanthi on December 2 at 3 pm. Permission has been granted for a stage programme as Azad Park between 6.30 and 8.30 pm, said the SP.

Stating that Datta Jayanthi will be observed on December 3, Annamalai said that devotees will have darshan of Datta paduke on the occasion. Permission has been denied for tying banners, buntings on M G Road, Hanumanthappa Circle and Azad Park Circle. However, Hindu community members are allowed to tie buntings at Bolarameshwara Temple, Town Canteen and near Ganapathi Temple.

Deputy Commissioner M K Srirangaiah said in order to maintain law and order 48 special taluk magistrates have been deployed.

The sale and transportation of liquor are banned from November 30 midnight to December 3 midnight in the district. Deputy Commissioners of Hassan and Shivamogga have also been requested to ban the sale of liquor for a day in their respective districts as well.

On account of the procession for Eid Milad and Shobhayathre, the movement of vehicles on Basavanahalli road, M G Road, Azad Park, Market road, K M Road has been restricted on December 2 from 7 am to 7 pm.

Precautionary measures

As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders under Section 144 has been clamped in the district from November 30 midnight to December 3 midnight.

The devotees are allowed to have darshan of Datta Paduke at Inam Datta Peeta from 7 am on account of Datta Jayanthi. The road leading to the Peeta has been repaired. The district administration has also made arrangement for the supply of drinking water and meals for the devotees. About 21 CCTV cameras have been installed at Datta Peeta, he said.

Ban on tourists

On account of Datta Jayanthi celebrations at Inam Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah, the district administration has banned the visit of tourists to Bababudangiri and other tourist spots in the surrounding areas from December 1 to 3, said DC M K Srirangaiah. The entry to Bababudangiri, Mullayanagiri, Seethalayyanagiri has been restricted.
