Sreejesh's finds himself in a spot

Last Updated 02 December 2017, 17:59 IST

Goalkeeper P R Sreejesh's participation in the Virat Kohli-organised Celebrity Clasico this October has not gone down well with the Hockey India who claim the injured custodian didn't seek prior permission when he was supposed to have been rehabilitating.

Sreejesh, the skipper of the Indian team until tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in April-May, chose to take part in Kohli's charity event in October while the Indians competed in the Asia Cup. It has been reliably learnt that HI is miffed with Sreejesh's action and even asked an explanation from him.

"HI was not happy with Sreejesh's decision to go and play in the charity event as he was still recovering. HI asked him by e-mail seeking an explanation. Sreejesh then responded saying since it was just a charity event, his personal physio had given him the clearance," the source said.

The source also revealed a disciplinary committee will be looking into the matter. Hockey India though refused to offer a comment. "Hockey India's Disciplinary Committee hasn't met recently. A decision on the issue will only be taken once they meet. Till then Hockey India would not want to offer any comments," an HI statement said.
