MLA H P Manjunath, on Saturday, said he had written a letter to the district administration to allow celebration of Hanuma Jayanti in the town.
Addressing a press conference here, the MLA said the celebration, which was scheduled for December 3, was prevented by the police and the district administration due to the violence that erupted.
"The people in the region have been celebrating the Jayanti for the past 23 years. But over the last three years, a few untoward incidents have been reported. I have requested for a probe in connection with the violence," the MLA said.
The MLA denied the charge that he pressured the district administration not to allow Hanuma Jayanti in the town. He said the authorities prevented the celebration as a precautionary measure following intelligence reports.
