Marauding BPCL drub Army Green; IOC survive

Last Updated 19 April 2010, 17:43 IST

Riding on a first half hat-trick from Jernail Singh and brace each from Sher Singh, Karamjeeth Singh and Gurmail Singh, proficient BPCL crushed a hapless Army Green 11-2 whereas IOCL had to rely on Prabhjot Singh’s equaliser to hold Sports Authority of India to a 2-2 draw.

With BPCL going full steam, Army Green desperately tried halting the momentum but ended up running for cover for most parts of the lop-sided match. Gurpreeth Singh started BPCL’s demolition act in the second minute before Jernail Singh scored his first in the sixth minute.  Veteran Sabu Varkey made it 3-0 in the 17th minute before Jernail sounded the board in the 18th and 30th minutes as BPCL led 5-0 at half time.

The assault continued upon resumption too when Sher Singh struck in the 31st minute. Goals from Sher (62nd), Karamjeeth Singh (43rd, 65th) and Gurmail Singh (68th, 70th) completed the rout.

Birsu Bhengra (38th) and Ajay Ekka (57th) reduced a semblance of pride for Army Green.
